Artist Manny Castro is taking the art world and the streets of Los Angeles by storm. Most notably, he hung thousands of Ruby Slippers over power lines throughout the city. He also spawned mixed reactions of outrage and delight with his installation of oversized “cocaine” bags on telephone poles around major intersections. Furthering Castro’s mission of bringing art to new audiences, he caused quite a stir with his 30-by-30 foot painting of Lady Gaga depicted as Christ draped over the Hollywood hills, which Perez Hilton called "Amazeballs" on his website. Castro is also a frequent collaborator with the chart-topping pop-duo "Karmin", which features his artwork in their music video "Brokenhearted".
After studying at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, Castro launched his fine art career with his first solo show being the main window installations for Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, and subsequently additional installations at Barney’s New York and Fred Segal. Since relocating to Los Angeles he has been fortunate to have some exciting subjects pose for him, including Milla Jovovich, Derek Blasberg, Agnes Bruckner, Amanda Lepore, Patrick McMullan, and Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan from "Karmin". He has remained true to his belief that art is an experience that should be easily accessible to everyone.
